Nov 21 Many teachers are required to teach sexuality education in one capacity or another. Trends in sexuality change over the years and adults can often be left at a loss for understanding the needs of their students. This one day intensive workshop will explore new trends in sexuality and provide teachers with accurate information on some of the risks involved in adolescent sexuality as well as allow teachers to become more familiar with these issues and more comfortable presenting sex education materials to their students Participants will be given practical tools to teach this subject to grade levels 7-11, although discussion and exercises may be modified for elementary levels as well. Topics include; Anatomy, understanding adolescent sexual behaviors, current trends with teens, STI Information, birth control and condom information, how to answer difficult questions, and tools for teaching.

Jul 21 to Aug 31 Billed as North America's most easterly Shakespeare Festival, Shakespeare By The Sea's line-up includes performances of a selection the Bard's classic tales. Performances will be held at Rotary Park Amphitheatre at Topsail Beach and at St. John’s Cabot 500 Theatre in Bowring Park.

George Street Festival Jul 31 to Aug 05 For five nights in the middle of summer, the pubs and bars on George Street in downtown St. John's feature live music by popular local and Canadian bands. The shows, which take place outdoors, feature performers that represent a variety of genres including traditional Newfoundland folk and rock n roll.

Aug 06 Held on the first Wednesday in August at Quidi Vidi Lake, this civic holiday is North America's oldest annual sporting event. In addition to the races, other activities include food and concession booths, as well as games. In the event of inclement weather, the regatta is held on the first suitable day after.

TBA Festival 500 - Sharing the Voices is a world renowned international festival of choral music, which will feature the world on stage with more than 60 concerts throughout North America’s oldest city, St. John’s, Newfoundland. Guest performers for the Grande Finale concert have included ANUNA (from Ireland) and Buddy Wasisname & the Other Fellers (from Newfoundland).
The next Festival 500 will be held from July 5 to 12, 2009.

TBA Every two years some of Newfoundland's best performers converge on St. John's for the Sound Symposium music festival. The event showcases the talents of artist in a variety of genres and offers events as varies as a symphony performance on the harbour, an improv night and African drum and dance ensembles.
The next Sound Symposium music festival will be held in 2008.
